This project provides direct access from I-66 East to the West Falls Church Metrorail station with a new ramp connection between two existing ramps. The connection opened July 15, 2021.
Drivers can now use Exit 66 from I-66 East to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike), stay left to join the ramp from Route 7 East to I-66 East, then use the eastbound collector-distributor road to reach the Metrorail station. Previously, vehicles exiting from I-66 turned right to head south on Route 7, turned left at the signalized intersection at Haycock Road, and then turned left at the next traffic signal onto Falls Church Drive.
This new direct access saves time for travelers bound for the Metrorail station and reduces traffic on an often-congested portion of Route 7.
All improvements were performed within existing VDOT right-of-way.
