FAIRFAX – A new ramp-to-ramp connection providing direct access from I-66 East to the West Falls Church Metrorail Station is planned to open midday tomorrow, Thursday, July 15. The new I-66 Eastbound direct access ramp connects two existing ramps – the ramp from I-66 East to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) and the ramp from Route 7 East to I-66 East – to allow drivers to reach the eastbound I-66 collector-distributor road adjacent to the Metrorail station's parking garage. This project is part of the I-66 Inside the Beltway Eastbound Widening Project.

ARLINGTON – The new Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail Bridge over Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Arlington will open this afternoon, Friday, March 12, announced the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). FAIRFAX – Bridge bearing replacement work on I-66 East over Sycamore Street will start on or about Wednesday, March 3, as part of the I-66 Inside the Beltway Eastbound Widening Project. This work will be in place until June and require scaffolding and fencing to be installed on the southbound side of Sycamore Street adjacent to the East Falls Church Metrorail Station entrance. The scaffolding and fencing, which will be installed for the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, will reduce the width of the sidewalk to approximately six feet for a distance of about 100 feet. Access to bike racks and lockers will not be impacted.

FAIRFAX – A new travel lane on Interstate 66 East between the Dulles Connector Road and exit 71 (Glebe Road/Fairfax Drive) opened today as part of the I-66 Eastbound Widening project. The new lane addresses a bottleneck on I-66, east of the Capital Beltway, where eastbound traffic on the Dulles Connector Road merges into eastbound I-66, funneling down to two through-lanes. In addition to the new four miles of additional lane, ramp improvements have been completed at exits 69 (Washington Boulevard/Lee Highway) and 71 (Glebe Road/Fairfax Drive), as well as rehabilitation and repairs to bridges, and construction of more than 12,000 linear feet of new and replacement noise barriers along eastbound and westbound I-66.

The average round-trip toll price during peak hours was $14.50, with the average morning toll during peak hours of $10.70 and average afternoon toll during the peak hours of $3.80. This toll rate during peak hours is lower than the estimated average toll rate of $17.00 during peak hours discussed in 2015.

The 395 Express Lanes extension, which involves expanding and converting two high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes to three express lanes from north of Edsall Road to Eads Street near the Pentagon, will help ease bottlenecks that occur where the existing 395 Express Lanes end. Improvements to the commuter-heavy Eads Street interchange and transit improvements on the entire I-395/I-95 Corridor are other key benefits of the project. FAIRFAX - The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), in partnership with the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT), will host Design Public Hearings for the Transform 66 Inside the Beltway Project on March 7, 8 and 9, 2016. Information on how dynamically-priced toll lanes will operate on I-66 inside the Beltway, as well as proposed locations of toll gantries and pricing signs will be provided. All of the hearings will include the opportunity to view project displays and attend a formal presentation, followed by a public comment period.

Governor Terry McAuliffe and members from both parties and both chambers of the Virginia General Assembly announced today a bipartisan agreement to move forward on a plan to reduce congestion on I-66 inside the beltway by widening a four mile stretch from the Dulles Connector Road to Ballston, improving transit, and adding new options for single drivers.

FAIRFAX- The Virginia Department of Transportation announced that the I-66 Inside the Beltway Design Public Hearings scheduled for Wednesday, February 3 and Friday, February 5 are cancelled. Due to the recent blizzard and snow removal efforts, all hearings will be rescheduled in the near future.

FAIRFAX - The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has Design Public Hearings scheduled for next week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings (Jan. 25, 26 and 27) from 6:00-8:00 p.m., to present information on how the dynamically-priced toll lanes will operate on I-66 inside the Beltway, as well as the proposed locations of toll gantries and pricing signs. If local schools are closed due to the forecasted snow storm, the hearings will be cancelled and held on the scheduled snow dates. The public is asked to stay alert to weather conditions and check Transform66.org for the latest information on weather-related cancellations.
