Governor McAuliffe and partners launch new transit services on I-66

FALLS CHURCH – Governor Terry McAuliffe today joined the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the Department of Rail and Public Transportation, the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission (NVTC), and state and local leaders to celebrate the launch of the first group of multimodal improvement projects under a new I-66 Commuter Choice program. VDOT unveils website for I-66 Express Lanes Inside the Beltway

FAIRFAX - With express lanes opening this December on I-66 Inside the Beltway, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) unveiled a new website, 66ExpressLanes.org, to educate travelers about how tolling will work, the necessity of getting an E-ZPass or E-ZPass Flex, and other changes coming to the highway. The express lanes, which will be in effect Monday through Friday, 5:30-9:30 a.m. eastbound, and 3:00-7:00 p.m. westbound, are designed to offer new travel choices that move people on I-66 with greater speed and reliability.

Testing Underway for I-66 Inside the Beltway Express Lanes Tolling System

FAIRFAX - The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is conducting field testing of the electronic tolling equipment for the I-66 Inside the Beltway Express Lanes to ensure the system is fully functional when tolling begins this December during weekday, rush hour periods. Testing is currently underway and will continue through the remainder of the summer and fall. No tolling will occur until the rush-hour-only Express Lanes open.
